Offering more services to citizen thanks to the Wi-Fi

The number of devices that access the Internet has augmented rapidly in the last years, increasing this way the demand for a Wi-Fi connection.

There have been many initiatives, public and private, to address these new needs.

An example is the initiative Pisa Wi-Fi, promoted by the Municipality of Pisa. Recently the Municipality has augmented the investments in order to increase the number of Wi-Fi hotspots in the town.

The main reason for Municipalities to deploy a public Wi-Fi network is the possibility to deliver different services to citizens with the aim to improve life’s quality, for example by:

• broadcast of e-gov’s portal, to deliver services and provide information to the citizens / professionals / businesses and tourists system
• development of web TV channels for the expansion of services’ portfolio offered by the Public Administration
• location of the medical staff, of the municipal police or people requiring special assistance
• traffic and mobility management to reduce congestion and travel times
• automatic payment for the access to the LTZs or parking
• management of emergencies and accidents in order to minimize the rescue time

WiTech as well has been giving its contribution for the realization of the initiative Pisa Wi-Fi providing its Wi-Fi Cloud solution. Wi-Fi Cloud is an innovative solution capable of enriching each WiFi location with advanced, yet easy-to-use features, such as the content customization.

These features allow offering specific services to citizens and tourists, increasing this way their satisfaction, which has positive impact on Municipality and administration’s image.
